Classroom Management
Due to the wide array of personality and learning styles among students and classes, I like to instill a variety of different classroom management tools. I like to use management tools that celebrate individual behaviors and some that reward the class as a whole. Listed below are a sample of some of the methods you would likely see in my classroom.
Alternative SeatingThere are many studies about the benefits regarding "alternative seating". I have found that by providing choice and teaching students to recognize and then advocate for their own learning needs, has increased engagement and decreased behavior difficulties. Not only does this system impact behavior choices and academic focus, it builds a sense of community and respect and the students recognize their peers' need for a different seating choice.

Individual Behavior PlanStudents will earn an incentive as they are caught doing great things. This is not only an individualized behavior plan but a whole class reward system. As they earn the incentive, they place it in a jar. As a class, they will work towards a chosen reward.
This system not only rewards those individual behaviors but helps students understand the impact their behaviors have on others. |
